A tense situation unfolded near Delhi Darwaja in Ahmedabad late on Thursday night after a group of gau rakshaks stopped a vehicle, alleging it was being used to transport cattle illegally.According to police sources, the incident unfolded around 9pm when a group of gau rakshaks (cow protectors) intercepted a vehicle near the Delhi Darwaja area. Upon inspection, they reportedly found a live calf inside, prompting immediate outcry and drawing a large crowd. Following the incident, a large crowd gathered near Delhi Darwaja, further heightening tensions in the area.Acting on a message from Madhupur police regarding the gathering near Delhi Darwaja, Sector 1, Additional Commissioner of Police Niraj Badgurjar, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and other senior officials, rushed to the spot to control the situation.The Police managed to disperse the crowd and restore calm within hours. Officers attempted to reason with the gau rakshaks, eventually managing to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control peacefully.An investigation has been launched to verify the circumstances of the animal’s transport and the authenticity of the allegations. No arrests have been reported so far, and police presence in the area has been heightened to maintain law and order.This event is the latest in a series of confrontations involving cow protectors in Gujarat. In a separate incident earlier this year, a truck driver in Bharuch suffered severe injuries after being assaulted by individuals claiming to protect cows. The driver was transporting cattle when he was attacked, leading to multiple fractures and a brain haemorrhage. Police have since filed charges against the assailants under various sections of the BNS, including attempted murder.
