Bangladeshi national held for falsifying documents to obtain Indian passport

A 30-year-old Bangladeshi national has been arrested for allegedly entering India illegally and securing an Indian passport using forged documents, police said on Tuesday.The accused, identified as Biplob, son of Nihar Ranjan Haldar, is a resident of Balgarh district of West Bengal. Originally from Munshiganj district in Bangladesh, Biplob reportedly entered India without a valid visa or travel documents in 2015, assisted by an unidentified agent based in West Bengal.SOG Police officials said that Biplob had furnished false affidavits and claimed to be a local resident to secure official documents, including a birth certificate from Kalyani Municipality in Nadia district, West Bengal. He allegedly submitted medical certificates and other records to support his false identity, which he later used to obtain an Aadhaar card, voter ID card, PAN card and ultimately an Indian passport (R-8846567).The matter came to light when immigration officials at Ahmedabad airport flagged discrepancies during routine checks. Biplob was subsequently detained by immigration officers, and a case was registered at the airport police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Indian Passport Act.Police Inspector PV Desai from the SOG Crime Branch, Ahmedabad City, is currently leading the investigation.A senior police official said that further inquiries are underway to trace the agent who facilitated Biplob’s illegal entry into India and to determine whether others are involved in similar offences.
