With the formation of Gujarat on May 1, 1960, the state had 17 districts, including Ahmedabad, Amreli, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, the Dangs, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Kheda, Kachchh, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Rajkot, Sabarkantha, Surat, Surendranagar and Vadodara.
