US tech firm IBM lays off 8,000 employees amid push for AI: Reports
US based tech giant IBM (International Business Machines) has reportedly laid off around 8,000 employees, with the bulk of the job cuts concentrated in the Human Resources (HR) department. The layoffs are part of a broader restructuring strategy aimed at accelerating the company’s adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in administrative and back-office operations.As per reports, IBM recently replaced approximately 200 HR roles with AI-powered systems capable of managing routine tasks such as processing employee queries, handling documentation, and organising HR data.
