Trump once again asks Canada to be 51st state amid ‘Golden Dome’ project talks

US President Donald Trump has once again called on Canada to consider becoming the 51st state of the United States, tying the proposal to the country's potential participation in his newly launched Golden Dome security initiative.Earlier this month, Trump unveiled the Golden Dome project – a defense and infrastructure plan aimed at strengthening national and allied security. Canadian President Mark Carney reportedly expressed interest in the project, saying Canada would consider investing in it for improved national safety and development. To which Donald Trump in a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, Trump wrote:“I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State. They are considering the offer!”Trump’s remarks have sparked fresh international discussion, though no official response from the Canadian government has been issued. While the idea of Canadian statehood has long been considered far-fetched, Trump has previously floated similar suggestions, often blending geopolitical commentary with domestic political strategy.
