Man held with mephedrone worth over ₹5 Lakh in Navrangpura
In a late-night anti-narcotics operation conducted between 3 and 4 June, the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) of the Gujarat Police busted a drug peddling network near Girish Cold Drink Crossroads on CG Road in Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, seizing 52.280 grams of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.As per SMC officials, one accused has been arrested, and the contraband, valued at ₹5.22 lakh, along with a mobile phone worth ₹5,000, was recovered during the operation. The total value of the seized items (muddamal) stands at ₹5.27 lakh.The accused, identified as Soheb alias Mama, a resident of Jamalpur, Ahmedabad, was arrested on the spot. He has been booked under various sections of the NDPS Act, which pertain to the possession, sale, and conspiracy related to narcotic drugs.Police have identified another key figure in the supply chain — Imran, a resident of Shah-e-Alam — who is currently absconding. He is believed to be the supplier of the mephedrone. A manhunt has been launched to trace and apprehend him.The raid was carried out by the SMC team after they got specific information about it. Acting on a tip-off, the raid was conducted discreetly in the bustling Navrangpura locality, a commercial and residential hub in central Ahmedabad.Officials suspect the accused were operating as part of a larger network involved in the distribution of synthetic drugs across the city. Preliminary interrogation has revealed connections to other suspected suppliers, and further investigation is underway.According to sources, neither Soheb nor Imran is listed as a habitual offender or repeat offender under the NDPS Act. However, police are checking past records and surveillance data to establish the extent of their involvement in drug trafficking. The arrested accused has been handed over to the local Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
