Gujarat to welcome monsoon by June 14-15

After the early onset of monsoon in Kerala and Mumbai, it has stalled instead of progressing further beyond Maharashtra and Mumbai. Due to the absence of any new weather system forming at the moment, Surat and the rest of south Gujarat will have to wait for around two weeks for the monsoon to arrive.

According to the meteorological department, rainfall is likely to begin in South Gujarat after June 14–15.

As per the spokesperson of the Meteorological Department, on Tuesday, Surat recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2°C, a minimum of 29°C, humidity at 73%, atmospheric pressure at 1002.0 millibars, and winds blowing from the southwest at a speed of 12 km/h.

During the afternoon, wind speeds reached up to 25 km/h. Although clouds have been forming for the past several days, certain areas have experienced sudden downpours accompanied by strong winds during the day or night. However, consistent rainfall has not yet begun.

Meteorologists have explained that although the monsoon arrived early this year, it has stalled after reaching Mumbai from Kerala. Instead of progressing toward Gujarat, it continues to pour over Mumbai and Maharashtra.

A system had formed over the Arabian Sea between Ratnagiri and Mahabaleshwar, which caused rainfall in these regions. However, the system eventually dissipated in that area, preventing the monsoon from moving forward.

It is now predicted that another system will form over the Arabian Sea, which may then bring rain. Typically, light rain showers occur at the end of May or the beginning of June every year.
