Woman dies after house collapse in Ahmedabad’s Dhana Suthar ni Pol

In Ahmedabad’s old city a deteriorated two-storey house collapsed in Dhana Suthar ni Pol, Kalupur, during the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old woman and injuries to another.According to officials, the collapse occurred between 2 am and 3 am, reportedly due to strong winds and rain that poured in the parts of the city late at night. Emergency teams from the fire brigade and police rushed to the scene following the distress call.Rescue operations led to the extraction of an elderly woman, who was taken to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the younger woman who was also trapped was found dead under the debris. Her body has been sent for postmortem.Reports indicate that the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had previously identified the structure as unsafe during a building survey, but no preventive action was taken. Following the incident, the AMC placed a warning notice at the site declaring the building dangerous.Local residents expressed anger and frustration, accusing the civic authorities of negligence. They claimed several other buildings in the area are in similarly hazardous condition and have been ignored despite repeated appeals.
