A significant theft occurred at a scientist's Paldi residence, where gold bars and ₹2 lakh in cash, totaling ₹19.55 lakh, were reportedly stolen while the family was on vacation. Following a complaint filed by the homeowner, police have initiated an investigation, with their domestic helper identified as the primary suspect.Dhara Patel, a scientist at the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre in Gandhinagar, reported the burglary to the Ellisbridge Police Station on Tuesday. She and her husband, Harin Patel, along with their children, had been away in Dwarka from May 22, returning on May 25 around 9 pm.Upon their return, Dhara’s in-laws, Jayaben and Dilipbhai, recounted an incident from May 24. During a rainstorm, Jayaben went to the third floor to secure the windows and doors. There, she discovered the iron safe ajar with its contents scattered, leading to the discovery that several gold bars and cash were missing.The stolen items included six 24-carat gold bars weighing 10 tolas each, two 1-tola gold bars, one 3-tola gold bar, and ₹2 lakh in cash, all stored in the third-floor safe. The total estimated value of the stolen items is ₹19.55 lakh.Dhara Patel stated that their domestic helper, Bhumikaben Arjunbhai Solanki, who had been employed for one and a half years primarily to care for their children, was the only person with regular access to their home. Dhara alleged that upon confrontation, Bhumika confessed to the theft.The Ellis Bridge Police have registered a theft case and commenced an investigation. According to KM Bhuva, police inspector of Ellisbridge Police Station, authorities verified the allegations and conducted a thorough inquiry, leading to the recovery of some stolen valuables from Bhumika’s residence. However, some items are yet to be recovered.The investigation also revealed that the accused had previously stolen minor items from the house and had been caught by the owners, but seemingly disregarded the incidents. This time, she allegedly took advantage of the family's absence, further stated Bhuva.The police have detained the accused, and further investigation is on.
