Unseasonal rain floods Rajkot street with 1.5 inches of rain in 45 minutes

Rajkot experienced an unseasonal rainfall, with around 1.5 inches pouring down in just 45 minutes, leading to widespread waterlogging across the city, on Wednesday. The downpour came after the city recorded the state’s highest temperature of 41.4°C earlier in the day.Due to inadequate drainage infrastructure, many roads were submerged, creating flood-like scenes and disrupting traffic.Surprisingly, despite the afternoon humidity being just 33% and dropping to 29% by 5.30pm, the city still witnessed heavy rainfall, defying typical weather patterns. Rainfall levels reached 27 mm in Dhebar Road (Central Zone), 39 mm at Nirmala Road (West Zone), and 26 mm in the East Zone.Despite the Rajkot municipal corporation’s (RMC) investment in drainage and road development, many streets remain poorly leveled. As a result, even moderate rain results in major waterlogging.Apart from Rajkot, Jetpur received about half an inch of rain, while Lodhika and Visavadar in Junagadh district also saw rainfall. The showers were accompanied by strong winds, adding to the severity of the weather.

Rajkot experienced an unseasonal rainfall, with around 1.5 inches pouring down in just 45 minutes, leading to widespread waterlogging across the city, on Wednesday. The downpour came after the city recorded the state’s highest temperature of 41.4°C earlier in the day.

Surprisingly, despite the afternoon humidity being just 33% and dropping to 29% by 5.30pm, the city still witnessed heavy rainfall, defying typical weather patterns. Rainfall levels reached 27 mm in Dhebar Road (Central Zone), 39 mm at Nirmala Road (West Zone), and 26 mm in the East Zone.
