CRPF jawan from Bhavnagar martyred in naxalite encounter in Chhattisgarh
A CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) jawan hailing Gujarat’s Bhavnagar was killed in action (KIA) on Thursday during an encounter with Naxalites in the forests of Tumrel along the border of Sukma and Bijapur districts of Chhattisgarh.In the encounter that broke out between Naxalites and the CRPF, Mehul Solanki (33), a Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) commando from Devgana village in Sihor taluka of Bhavnagar district was martyred.CoBRA is a specialised unit within the CRPF known for its expertise in guerrilla and jungle warfare.A wreath-laying ceremony for the martyred jawan was held at the 4th battalion of Chhattisgarh Armed Force in the Mana area on Friday.Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai reportedly said, “CoBRA commando Constable Mehul Solanki, a resident of Gujarat, lost his life in the encounter between Naxalites and security forces in the Narayanpur area...We pay tribute to him and may his soul rest in peace...His sacrifice will not go in vain...Peace will prevail in the Bastar area…” Notably, Solanki, an unmarried soldier from Devgana village in Sihor, had been serving in the armed forces for the past 10 years. Upon receiving the news of his martyrdom, a wave of grief engulfed the entire Solanki family in Devgana. The village too was overwhelmed with sorrow.The mortal remains of the martyr will be flown from Chandigarh to Ahmedabad on Friday. From there, in the evening, it will be brought by road to his native village Devgana, where his final rites will be performed with full military honours. Meanwhile, as the news of the martyrdom of the Black Cobra Commando spread rapidly, community leaders, especially from the Dalit community, as well as many youths, rushed to Devgana to console the grieving family.
