Gujarat mock drill scheduled for today postponed, new date to be announced soon
Following a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army conducted airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under ‘Operation Sindoor.’ In the aftermath, a mock drill was held across several districts in India, including Gujarat, in anticipation of a war-like situation between India and Pakistan. Based on directives from the Indian government, another round of mock drills was scheduled for Thursday in five states including Gujarat. However, the civil defence department has postponed the drill, until a new decision is made. A new date will be announced in the coming days.The ‘Operation Shield’ exercise has been postponed due to administrative reasons.Deputy Superintendent of Police and Commandant A A Sheikh stated, “The Ministry of Home Affairs had instructed for a second civil defense exercise named ‘Operation Shield’ to be conducted on May 29, 2025, across all districts along India’s western border. However, according to a message from the Directorate General of Civil Defence (DGCD), the aforementioned exercise has been temporarily postponed for administrative reasons. New dates will be communicated later.”For now, the ‘Operation Shield’ mock drill, which was to be conducted from 5 pm to 8 pm in the border states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir, has been suspended.
