In a dramatic rescue operation, a four-year-old girl abducted from Law Garden on Saturday was traced and safely recovered by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Wednesday. The kidnapper, identified as Nikita Ambalal Dantani, has been arrested.According to the police, the girl was allegedly kidnapped from the popular Law Garden area, where she had been playing. Her parents, who work as daily-wage labourers, initially struggled to provide details about the suspected abductor, complicating the investigation.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ajit Rajan said, “At first, identifying who had taken the child was extremely challenging. However, a coordinated operation was launched by Zone 1 and the Crime Branch teams.”Eight teams were formed by the Crime Branch, each comprising four officers skilled in analysing CCTV footage. After reviewing extensive footage from the area, the abductor was identified as Nikita Ambalal Dantani, who had been living near the Riverfront.Nikita, whose first husband had passed away, had remarried for love but had no children from her second marriage. Following the breakdown of her second marriage, she became estranged from her parents as well. Driven by a longing to fill the void in her life, she allegedly decided to abduct the child from Law Garden when she was playing with her. Police said Nikita took the girl to various locations over several days in a bid to avoid detection. In an attempt to disguise the child’s identity, Nikita even cut the girl’s hair and dressed her as a boy. However, the breakthrough came when police teams located crucial CCTV footage that led to Nikita’s arrest and the safe recovery of the girl.The child has been handed over to her family and is undergoing a medical examination to ensure her well-being.Police sources confirmed that Nikita had no prior criminal record. The Crime Branch, which has been focusing on such cases for the past nine months, has assured the public that it will take strict action against those involved in crimes against children.
