Google to set up $6 billion data centre in Andhra Pradesh: Report
Tech giant Google is likely to invest in a $6 billion (~₹5 lakh crore) data centre in Andhra Pradesh, with 1-gigawatt capacity, as per a report by Reuters.Citing sources from the state government, Reuters reported that the data centre investment by Alphabet, Google’s parent company, also includes $2 billion in renewable energy capacity, to be used to power the centre.On July 27, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had also revealed that under the India Quantum Mission, Andhra Pradesh is set to establish the country’s first-ever Quantum Valley in Amaravati, and that global tech leader Google is setting up a data centre in Visakhapatnam.His remarks came during his Singapore visit. Later, he also met Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to discuss investment and infrastructure collaboration between Singapore and Andhra Pradesh.He reiterated the state’s ambitious goal of achieving 160 gigawatts of green energy generation. He informed the High Commissioner that green hydrogen projects have already been launched in Visakhapatnam (in partnership with NTPC) and Kakinada.The delegation led by the CM also had plans to visit the Jurong Petrochemical Island to study the planning and development of industrial zones, residential areas, and logistics hubs.Speaking in Singapore, Naidu had also highlighted the state’s industrial potential, pointing out that regions like Rayalaseema offer highly conducive conditions for the establishment of defence, aerospace, electronics, and automobile manufacturing units.(with inputs from syndicated feed)
