Major Crackdown on Drug and Alcohol Smuggling in Dadra & Nagar Haveli

Dadra & Nagar Haveli police executed multiple raids across border villages and urban zones of Silvassa, leading to the confiscation of alcohol and narcotics. Authorities confirmed the seizure of thousands of bottles of liquor and drugs meant for illegal distribution in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The crackdown has been hailed as one of the most impactful enforcement operations in the region in 2025.

Law enforcement in Dadra & Nagar Haveli have conducted a coordinated operation against illegal drug and liquor smuggling networks operating along the Silvassa-Khanvel border and nearby villages. The crackdown—launched after weeks of surveillance—resulted in the seizure of contraband worth over ₹12 lakh and the arrest of several individuals, including a notorious local smuggler believed to have ties with regional cartels.

Key locations raided include:

• Tokarkhada

• Amli

• Dudhani route towards Gujarat border

• Industrial storage units in Rakholi and Masat

Officials revealed that smuggling operations were taking advantage of the porous borders and lesser checks in the Union Territory. Large volumes of country-made and foreign liquor were being funneled to Gujarat, where alcohol is banned. Additionally, synthetic drugs and tablets were intercepted en route to Maharashtra's tribal belts.

The Special Task Force (STF) and District Police conducted night operations, seizing:

• 1,500 bottles of illicit liquor

• Large stockpiles of sedative tablets and injectable narcotics

• Unregistered vehicles used for transportation

Senior police officers stated that data from local informants and phone surveillance led to the identification of warehouses and stock points. The kingpin, identified only as R.K., is suspected of coordinating smuggling routes via rented warehouses and unauthorized vehicles.

“This is not just about liquor—it’s about organized crime threatening the youth of the region,” a senior official remarked. Legal proceedings under the NDPS Act and Excise Act have already begun against the arrested culprits.

Local activists have welcomed the crackdown and demanded stricter surveillance across checkposts, especially during festival seasons when trafficking peaks.

The District Magistrate has called for a review meeting with law enforcement and local panchayats to strengthen cooperation against smuggling activities and safeguard youth from addiction risks.
