Youth Participation Grows in Government Employment Schemes Across Dadra & Nagar Haveli

Suraj SIngh:

In an encouraging sign, tribal and rural youth in Dadra & Nagar Haveli have actively participated in government-run employment and skill development initiatives. With a strategic focus on SC/ST and economically backward communities, local administrations have enabled job-readiness through certified training, direct job placement, and small business loans.

The Administration of Dadra & Nagar Haveli has shared progress figures from state-run employment and skill development programs, revealing that over 14,000 youth have enrolled in various training and livelihood schemes since April 2024.

A large portion of these youth come from tribal communities in villages such as Sayli, Rakholi, Samarvani, and Dapada, where the outreach programs focused on marginalized groups, especially Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.

According to the latest data:

  • 14,347 individuals have registered across multiple schemes.

  • 7,212 youth completed certified vocational training programs.

  • 3,500+ candidates have been directly placed in private companies or small industries.

  • Over 1,800 applicants received micro-loans to start small businesses.

Departments involved in the program include the Department of Employment & Training, Social Welfare, and District Skill Committee (DSC). A joint monitoring committee ensures each candidate is tracked from enrollment to employment.

“Our goal is to make every youth employable, regardless of location or background,” said an official from the DSC. Local ITI centers and partner institutions have also collaborated to offer short-term and long-term courses in fields like welding, tailoring, electrical repair, hospitality, and data entry.

Feedback from beneficiaries indicates that apart from employment, confidence and social dignity have also increased—especially for women and tribal youth who had limited access to education or mobility.

A proposal is in place to further expand the program to include digital freelancing and e-commerce training to tap into India’s growing gig economy.

 Key Insights:

  • 14,347 youth registered under government employment programs.

  • Focus on SC/ST and BPL community upliftment.

  • Strong job placement and entrepreneurship support.

  • Digital upskilling to be added in the next phase.
