GETCO hires staff without approved pay scale, minister tells suffering candidates to join private jobs
In a move that has raised eyebrows, Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) downgraded the post of Plant Operator Grade-1 (PO-1) downgraded to Electrical Assistant Plant Attendant Grade-1 (PA-1), and carried out recruitments without the approval of the Gujarat government, putting the future of the candidates in jeopardy.The Energy & Petrochemicals department under the state government has not approved the pay scale for the post. Adding salt to their wounds, when some candidates reportedly approached Energy Minister Kanu Desai, he reportedly suggested that they join a private firm to get more compensation.According to a candidate named Rakesh Bambhaniya, after candidates made representations in April, the minister had suggested that they join a private firm instead.The recruitment was carried out for 153 posts. The first qualifying examination, main examination, document verification process, and medical process were completed by January 3, 2025. After the circle choice filling process was completed on January 27, the candidates were awaiting offer letters when they were hit with disappointment.The candidates now demand an alternative arrangement on an immediate basis, asking why they should suffer due to the mistake of the officials after they have invested almost one-and-a-half years in seeking recruitment.They also demanded legal action against GETCO officials who downgraded the post without the department’s approval.
