Silvassa: In a disturbing incident, a newborn baby boy, estimated to be 2–3 days old, was found abandoned in a bag (jhola) near Bahumali Complex in Silvassa. The child was discovered crying in the bushes by a group of local youths, who immediately informed the Silvassa Police.

A viral video circulating on social media suggests that the baby was provided a diaper by Vinoba Bhave Government Hospital, indicating some level of initial care. While such incidents are rare in the city, they raise serious concerns regarding child safety, parental responsibility, and community vigilance.

Authorities emphasize that from birth to early childhood, support systems including government schemes, hospitals, and local Anganwadi centers in Silvassa are in place to ensure proper care and accommodations for both mother and child. Experts stress that abandoning a newborn is both illegal and highly unsafe, and parents must utilize available support to prevent such tragic occurrences.

The Silvassa Police have taken the child into care, and further investigation is underway to identify the parents and ensure the baby’s safety. Citizens are urged to report any similar suspicious activities and help protect vulnerable children.

Newborn babies are highly vulnerable; abandoning them is illegal and dangerous.

Government hospitals and Anganwadis provide support for newborn care and parenting guidance.

Community vigilance plays a critical role in child protection.

Parents facing difficulties are urged to seek assistance rather than risking the child’s life.
