Daman, August 29: In a landmark step that highlights transparency and accountability, the Daman Police Department has registered a case against its own Crime Branch officials, including Police Sub-Inspector Dubey, for alleged abduction and extortion.
The FIR was officially registered on August 26, 2025, following a complaint by Ashok Patil, who accused the Crime Branch team of abducting him and demanding money for his release. Unlike in many such cases, the Daman Police took swift action, ensuring that no one is above the law.
The charges have been filed under Sections 140(2), 308(7), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code.
Case Details
According to the complaint, the officials allegedly detained three people in connection with a liquor smuggling case and demanded a ransom of ₹10 lakh for their release, of which ₹7 lakh was collected.
