POCSO accused escapes from police custody at LG Hospital in Maninagar
A man accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act escaped from police custody on Friday while being taken for a medical check-up at Maninagar’s LG Hospital in Ahmedabad. He allegedly fled the hospital premises by taking advantage of the commotion that broke out following a patient’s death.According to the police, four individuals — identified as Valji Solanki, Ramila Solanki, Jaysukh Vaghela, and Kesarben Vaghela — had been arrested by Amraiwadi police in connection with a POCSO case registered on May 31. Before being presented before a special POCSO court, they were taken for a routine medical examination at LG Hospital under police escort.Head Constable Arvindbhai Bababhai, Constable Sanjay, and Woman Constable Hetalben were tasked with escorting the accused in a government vehicle. Upon reaching the hospital, Constable Sanjay went to park the vehicle while the other two officers escorted the four accused to the trauma ward.While the doctors were conducting the medical examination and verifying police details, one of the accused, Jaysukh Vaghela, sat on a table next to the doctor, while the others stood with the officers. During this time, the hospital witnessed an influx of people after the death of a patient, leading to a surge of emotional relatives and a large crowd gathering.Taking advantage of the distraction, Jaysukh slipped out of the trauma ward unnoticed. By the time the officers realised he was missing, he had already fled. Despite an immediate search of the surrounding area, the accused could not be located.Following the incident, Head Constable Arvindbhai lodged a formal complaint against Jaysukh Vaghela at the Maninagar police station. Efforts are now underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused. Meanwhile, the remaining three accused have been remanded to judicial custody and sent to Sabarmati Central Jail.
