Gujarat govt summons councillors to Gandhinagar amid public outrage over roads, bridges

Following the Gambhira bridge accident and widespread public anger over pothole-ridden roads and overall infrastructure in the state, the government has been forced into action. The monsoon has exposed the government’s shortcomings, with roads being washed away after just a single rain, dilapidated bridges collapsing, and thousands of potholes testifying to corruption, fuelling public anger against the government.With the opposition taking to the streets and receiving public support, the government has begun urgent road and highway repairs, keeping in mind the upcoming municipal elections to mitigate public anger. Councillors and MLAs from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, and other municipal corporations were urgently summoned to Gandhinagar for a meeting    .The meeting, held at Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s residence, the CM took account of public work executed by the councillors and MLAs.High command has advised BJP MPs to fully utilise the grants allotted to them. The government now fears that the rising public anger could translate into electoral losses, as seen in Visavadar, where despite all efforts, voters rejected the BJP. To prevent similar losses in upcoming elections, the government has begun aggressive repairs of roads and bridges across the state.

Following the Gambhira bridge accident and widespread public anger over pothole-ridden roads and overall infrastructure in the state, the government has been forced into action.

Councillors and MLAs from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, and other municipal corporations were urgently summoned to Gandhinagar for a meeting    .
