In a disturbing incident reported from Kalol in Gandhinagar district, a woman home guard on traffic regulation duty was targeted in an acid attack by an auto-rickshaw driver after she reprimanded him for violating traffic rules.According to police, the attack took place on Friday morning under the Chhatral Bridge, where five Home Guard personnel, one male and four females, had been deployed across various points for traffic regulation. The accused, identified as Ashokbhai Rameshbhai Rawat, a resident of Chhatral and a rickshaw driver by profession, allegedly drove his vehicle in a manner that obstructed traffic flow.When Home Guard constable Bhavnaben Ramanbhai Parmar, who was on duty at the time, confronted him and issued a verbal warning for his traffic violation, the rickshaw driver left the spot without any confrontation.However, a short while later, in a premeditated act of retaliation, the accused allegedly returned to the location with a household acid bottle. As per preliminary investigation, he used a bottle with a punctured cap to spray acid on the woman constable while she was still on duty beneath the Chhatral Bridge. After committing the act, he fled the scene.The injured Home Guard was initially taken to Kalol Civil Hospital for treatment and later referred to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for further medical attention. Police officials confirmed that Bhavnaben did not sustain any serious injuries and her condition is currently stable.Kalol Taluka Police swiftly identified and apprehended the accused based on initial leads and eyewitness accounts. A formal complaint is being registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact nature of the chemical used and the extent of the planning behind the attack.Senior police officials from the district have condemned the incident and assured strict action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to assault and use of corrosive substances.
