Traffic diversions on S G Highway as Karnavati–YMCA flyover work begins, expected to continue for six months

Commuters using the busy Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (SG) Highway in Ahmedabad are set to face diversions and partial closures for the next six months as construction begins on a major infrastructure project. The National Highway Division (Ahmedabad) has initiated work on an elevated corridor (flyover) stretching from Karnavati Club to YMCA Club, a critical section that witnesses heavy vehicular flow throughout the day.According to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) N N Chowdhary, the bridge pillars for the project have already been constructed, and the process of installing girders atop these pillars will now commence. The work will be carried out continuously over a 24-hour cycle for an estimated period of six months.Partial closure and diversionsAs part of the construction phase, a 100-metre stretch of the one-way carriageway on SG Highway between Karnavati Club and YMCA Club will remain closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the project. The affected section forms part of a critical commuter route linking western Ahmedabad to industrial and residential areas along the highway.To manage the anticipated disruption, the traffic department has announced a detailed diversion plan:Vehicles, including both light and heavy, travelling from Sanand and Sarkhej towards the SG Highway will need to take a detour. Commuters are advised to proceed via the YMCA Club, turn left at Bhagwan Circle, then take a right from Zaveri (Chakri) Circle, and again turn right near Karnavati Club to rejoin SG Highway.Additionally, the road from ISKCON junction towards Sarkhej will remain open, offering partial relief to commuters in the affected corridor.The traffic department has urged all commuters and residents to cooperate and follow the diversions strictly, keeping safety and smooth movement in mind. Commuters are also advised to plan their travel accordingly and anticipate potential delays during peak hours.
