Trump gives Putin 10-12 days to agree on Ukraine deal, warns of possible sanctions
US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh deadline to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that Moscow has 10 or 12 days to come to an agreement on a resolution to the war in Ukraine. Trump hinted that a formal announcement regarding the proposed deal could be made tonight or tomorrow, as per reports. The remarks came reportedly during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Trump’s Turnberry golf resort in Scotland. Trump, who has recently been vocal about his plans to intervene in the Ukraine conflict, said he sees no reason to wait on a resolution and signaled that sanctions including secondary tariffs on Russia’s trading partners could be imposed if Moscow does not engage. This marks a shift from his earlier position two weeks ago, when he warned of “very severe tariffs” if a deal wasn’t reached within 50 days. The new comments dramatically shorten that timeline. There has been no official response from the Kremlin as of yet. However, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, a close ally of Putin, responded critically on social media. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Medvedev said Trump’s rhetoric amounts to “playing the ultimatum game” and cautioned that such tactics could escalate tensions far beyond the current conflict.“Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step toward war — not just between Russia and Ukraine, but potentially involving [Trump’s] own country,” Medvedev warned.
