Lt. Colonel, JCO killed, 2 injured in rockslide in Ladakh

Two Indian Army personnel, including a senior officer, were killed and two others injured when a massive boulder fell on a military convoy vehicle in Ladakh on Wednesday.

The Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army identified the deceased as Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh Mankotia and Lance Dafadar Daljit Singh.

The tragic incident occurred around 11:30 AM while the convoy was moving from Durbuk to Chongtas, a remote stretch known for its treacherous terrain and high-altitude conditions. A boulder from a cliff suddenly dislodged and crashed onto the lead vehicle of the convoy, severely damaging it.

GOC, Fire and Fury Corps and all ranks salute Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh Mankotia and Lance Dafadar Daljit Singh, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Ladakh on 30 July 2025, and offer deep condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” the Corps stated in a tribute posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Reports indicate that the Lieutenant Colonel and three others were travelling in the ill-fated vehicle. Following the impact, troops accompanying the convoy launched a swift rescue operation to extricate the injured from the mangled vehicle.

Two other personnel, including an officer, sustained critical injuries in the incident and are currently undergoing treatment. Further details regarding their condition are awaited.

The Army’s earlier statement confirmed: “A boulder from a cliff fell on one of the vehicles of a military convoy in Ladakh around 1130h on 30 Jul 2025. Recovery action is in progress.”

This incident underscores the extreme and unpredictable conditions faced by Army personnel deployed in the high-altitude border regions of Ladakh. Despite the risks, these soldiers continue to carry out their duties with unwavering commitment.
