Bogus doctor's setup, Inset: accusedThe Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural Police on Tuesday arrested a man posing as a qualified allopathic doctor and running an illegal clinic in Saraswatinagar under the jurisdiction of Changodar police station, despite having no formal medical degree.The arrest was made as part of a district-wide crackdown on unqualified and bogus medical practitioners.Acting on specific intelligence, a team led SOG team raided the residence of the accused identified as Ramesh Sushenchandra Biswas, originally from Purbanagar in Nadia district, West Bengal, and currently residing at, Saraswatinagar, Changodar.According to officials, Biswas, who had studied only up to Standard 12, had been unlawfully practising allopathic medicine from his home-based clinic near the Changodar canal. He was allegedly prescribing and administering unauthorised allopathic medicines to patients in the locality without possessing any recognised medical qualifications.The raid, conducted in coordination with Dr Kantibhai Kapadia, medical officer in-charge at the Sanathal Primary Health Centre, led to the seizure of allopathic medicines and medical equipment belonging to various pharmaceutical companies. The total value of the seized items has been estimated at ₹40,696.Following the raid, an FIR was registered at Changodar police station under section of the Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act, 1963, which prohibits the practice of medicine without appropriate registration.Police said further investigations are underway to determine whether the accused had caused any harm to patients during his unauthorised practice and to identify any possible suppliers of the medical stock recovered from the premises.
