Intrusion devices for Gir lions will monitor their movements from 200 m away
In the hearing of the public interest writ filed by the Gujarat High Court regarding the death of lions in the Gir forest sanctuary area, a report was presented by the railway authorities on Friday regarding the steps taken to save the lions, security measures, and the work done. The railway department also clarified that not a single lion had died prematurely in a train accident after a period of six months.A bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Pranab Trivedi, after considering the response of the court assistant and the railway authority, had fixed the further hearing of the case in February. Earlier, despite the directions of the High Court, the Chief Justice had slammed the forest and railway authorities regarding the death of two more lions due to a train accident and the death of a lioness and two lion cubs in another incident and sought their reply.Meanwhile, the Railway Authority has taken various steps in the matter.While presenting the report, it was said that the Railway Department will lay fibre cables next to the railway track in the Gir Sanctuary forest area. Apart from this, an intrusion device will be installed with the help of artificial intelligence. With which the movement of lions can be detected from a distance of 200 meters.This device will be installed inside and outside the Gir Sanctuary area. The tender process has been undertaken for all these works, which will be completed by February 10.Apart from this, underpasses have also been specially constructed for trains passing through the Gir Sanctuary area, and extensive fencing has also been carried out to protect the lions by removing bushes in this area.
