Ahmedabad traffic police launches drive against wrong-side driving in schools
To curb the growing menace of wrong-side driving by parents near school zones, the Ahmedabad City Traffic Police launched a comprehensive awareness drive across multiple schools on Monday.The initiative, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Safin Hasan, aims to engage directly with school principals and teachers to sensitise parents about traffic rules and the dangers of wrong-side driving. The campaign involved area-specific traffic police teams visiting selected schools and conducting awareness sessions during school hours.“Through direct dialogue with educators and engagement with parents, we hope to instil a sense of responsibility and compliance with traffic norms,” said DCP Safin Hasan. “This is not just an enforcement drive, but a proactive attempt to change mindsets and improve safety around school premises.”As part of the initiative, traffic awareness sessions were conducted on July 28 at various schools, including Ahmedabad International School, Vastrapur (A Division traffic police), Kendriya Vidyalaya, ACB Cut, Shahibaug (F Division traffic police), Podar International School, Vastral (I Division traffic police), Silver Bells School, Bapunagar (H Division traffic police), D P School, Akhbarnagar, Nava Vadaj (B Division trafffic police), Shree Narayan Guru School (N Division traffic police) and C N Vidyalay (M Division traffic police)Each team was accompanied by the local traffic police station’s PI and constables, who facilitated discussions and distributed awareness material. In several schools, live demonstrations and interactive Q&A sessions were also held to explain the consequences of reckless driving practices.The city traffic police plan to continue such awareness programmes throughout the academic year in collaboration with schools, parent-teacher associations, and local law enforcement units.
