Two Telegu man drown in USATwo Telugu men, both aged 32, lost their lives in a drowning incident on the Colorado River near Topock Gorge, USA, according to an official statement released by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) of Arizona.The victims have been identified as Anoop Gankidi, of Tempe, Arizona, and Venkata Mukkaala, of Milpitas, California. Both men were of Indian origin and originally hailed from the Telugu-speaking community.The incident occurred on Sunday, around 2.15 pm, when MCSO’s Division of Boating Safety received a distress call reporting two men who had gone underwater and had not resurfaced.Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD) were the first to arrive and deployed a diver into the river. Soon after, MCSO deputies arrived and assisted in rescue efforts. The diver located both missing men, and CPR was immediately administered before they were transported to the Colorado River Medical Center in Needles, California, where they were later pronounced dead.According to the investigation, the group had rented a pontoon boat and anchored at a beach along the river. All five occupants of the boat had entered the water to cool off. During the swim, three individuals began to struggle, with one managing to return safely to shallow waters. Unfortunately, Gankidi and Mukkaala went under and did not resurface.Authorities confirmed the victims were underwater for approximately 20 minutes before being recovered from 12 feet of water. The sheriff’s office noted that impairment is not believed to be a factor, and the investigation is ongoing.
