The Par Tapi River Link Project has been shelved, Gujarat BJP president and Navsari MP C R Patil announced, countering recent statements made by Congress leaders. On World Tribal Day (August 9), MLAs Jignesh Mevani and Anant Patel had declared their intention to launch an agitation against the project, alleging it would lead to the loss of lakhs of acres of tribal land. Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly Dr Tushar Chaudhary also spoke out on the issue, claiming that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) had been presented in the Lok Sabha.Addressing the media, Patil said that the project was originally announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget a few years ago. The Congress, having no real issues, is spreading misinformation and misleading the tribal community,” he alleged.
