Now, travellers from Bharuch heading towards Mumbai via National Highway will need to use the expressway from Kim to Ena. For Surat city traffic, there will be two access points – Kim and Ena village.Kholvad Bridge has been damaged for two yearsThe bridge over the Tapi River near Kamrej-Kholvad on NH-48 has been in a damaged condition for the past two years. Despite this, the authorities did not begin repair work, even though thousands of vehicles passed over it daily. A seven-foot iron plate was also placed on the bridge. Describing her ordeal, a frequent traveller from Ankleshwar to Surat said, “There’s a stretch on the Kholvad Bridge over Tapi River from where all the state transport buses travel daily. We used to pray before the iron-plate stretch and experienced great relief once we passed that stretch.”However, after the collapse of the Gambhira bridge over the Mahi River near Padra in Vadodara on Wednesday, the administration across all districts have gone on high alert. Also read:Which bridges in Gujarat are dangerous?
