Man sentenced to 20 years in Daman for abducting, raping minor
Daman rape, abductionA court in Daman has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison, along with a hefty fine, for raping a minor girl.The case dates back to August 2021, when a 12-year-old girl, Kamini, went missing from Daman, prompting her family to launch an extensive search.An investigation by the police found that a Daman resident, Mohammad Azharuddin, also known as Azhar or Rinku Manzur Hussein, had lured Kamini with the promise of marriage and abducted her.Upon learning that Azharuddin had taken Kamini to Uttar Pradesh under the pretence of marriage, the police launched a manhunt.After a 20-day search, the police located Azharuddin and Kamini in Uttar Pradesh. Azharuddin was arrested, and subsequently, Kamini’s statement revealed that he had sexually assaulted her during their time together.The police filed a chargesheet against Azharuddin in the District Court of Union Territory of Diu and Daman.During the trial, Judge Shridhar M Bhosale found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 20 years in prison and a ₹13,000 fine. Additionally, the court ordered compensation to be paid to the victim.
