Two youth arrested with 4.64 grams of mephedrone worth ₹46,400 from Shahpur

The Local Crime Branch (LCB) Zone-2 of Ahmedabad Police arrested two youth from Rajasthan on Wednesday for allegedly possessing 4.64 grams of the banned synthetic drug mephedrone, commonly known as MD, during a raid conducted in the Baliyadev Khancha area under Shahpur police station limits.According to police officials, the accused Bharat Chaudhary (23), a resident of Lalpur Canal, Sanchor, and Rahul Parmar (21), a resident of Nehru Colony, Sanchor were found in possession of mephedrone and/or amphetamine without a valid pass or permit, along with other incriminating items, including two mobile phones and an electric weighing scale, with a total value of ₹62,400.Acting on a tip-off received around 2.10 pm, an LCB Zone-2 official launched a surveillance operation with a team of officers and two government-appointed panch witnesses. The raid was carried out at a second-floor residence near Ranchhodraiji temple in Pathan’s Chawl locality, where the suspects were allegedly preparing the contraband for retail sale.Police said that upon entering the premises, the two accused were found in a room with narcotics stored in plastic zip-lock bags. Two mobile phones were recovered from the duo along with ₹1,000 in cash, 11 empty zip-lock bags, and an old electric pocket scale allegedly used for weighing the substance.A preliminary field test conducted on-site by an officer from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) confirmed that the white powder was mephedrone and/or amphetamine. The total net weight of the seized drug was measured at 4.64 grams, with an estimated street value of ₹46,400.“During questioning, the accused admitted to sourcing the drugs from a man named Waliraj, who is currently absconding. Efforts are underway to trace him,” said Shahpur Police Inspector H D Jadeja, who led the operation.The duo has been booked under Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.Police said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the wider network involved in the local distribution of synthetic drugs.
