Burglars loot cash, silver jewellery worth ₹3.69 lakh from Thaltej house
Thieves broke into a locked house in the Upendra Park locality near Gulab Tower in Thaltej and decamped with silver ornaments and valuables worth an estimated ₹3.69 lakh. The theft occurred sometime between the afternoon of August 5 and early afternoon of August 6, while the homeowners were away in the United States.As per the police complaint filed at Vastrapur police station by Deepak Kumar Patel, the brother-in-law of the homeowners, the house registered in the name of Ashok Kumar Deviprasad Patel and his wife Bharatiben had been locked since March 30, when the couple left for the US to visit their son. The complainant was entrusted with the house keys in their absence.On Wednesday afternoon, Jaate-Patel was informed by another relative, Bankimchandra Patel, that the main door of the residence appeared to have been broken into. Upon reaching the property, Patel discovered the lock on the main door had been forcibly broken, and the interiors of the house were ransacked, with furniture and cupboards visibly disturbed.He immediately informed Ashok Patel via WhatsApp and called the police control room. A team from Vastrapur police station arrived shortly after and registered a case of theft.Following a preliminary inventory over a call with Ashok Patel, the missing items include:One silver necklace set valued at ₹15,000,Seven silver coins of 10 grams each (₹7,000),Six silver coins of 20 grams each (₹12,000),Two silver coins of 50 grams each (₹10,000),One silver idol of Goddess Lakshmi weighing approximately 50 grams (₹5,000),Two silver idols of Lord Ganesha weighing 100 grams in total (₹10,000),A silver yantra (₹5,000),A silver kankavati (traditional container) weighing around 30 grams (₹3,000), andA silver lamp weighing 20 grams (₹2,000)The total value of stolen items is estimated to be ₹3.69 lakh.Neighbours reportedly last saw the house locked around 4 pm on August 5. Based on this, police believe the theft took place sometime between 4 pm on August 5 and 1:15 pm on August 6. No CCTV footage has been mentioned in the initial complaint.A case under sections of housebreaking and theft has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
