Meet Laxman, rapper from Nepal’s hills to Ahmedabad’s streets, with hip-hop dreams

Nepali artist in Ahmedabad A 22-year-old Nepali boy in Ahmedabad with nothing else but dreams in his eyes is elevating his daily monotonous life with self-created rap songs.On an otherwise ordinary mid-week afternoon, Laxman sat with friends at a chai-ki-tapri, sipping tea. But soon, the quiet scene turned electric. People began to gather around as he launched into an impromptu hip-hop performance, in his mother tongue Nepali. Even though most bystanders couldn’t understand the lyrics, they nodded their heads, feeling the rhythm and vibing to the beat.Speaking to Gujarat Samachar Digital, Laxman shared that he had moved from Nepal to Ahmedabad just six months ago. He currently works as a domestic help at a shop near Sola bridge. “I’m doing menial jobs to support my mother here in Ahmedabad, but my heart belongs to rapping,” he said.His journey into music began when he was 15, in a remote village in Nepal. The spark? Hearing the music of American rapper XXXTentacion. Inspired, he began crafting his own lyrics and performing on the streets for friends.Life took a tougher turn when he moved to Ahmedabad to earn a living. “My mother and I are in Ahmedabad, while my father stayed back in Nepal for work. My mother underwent a surgery and I am taking care of her here.”“After coming to a new, big city, I did not stop writing songs. I write about heartbreak, societal issues, love, and friendship,” he added.When asked if he wanted to be famous, Laxman didn’t hesitate and with his innocent smile said, “Hip-hop ki duniya me famous hone ke liya mehnat aur struggle karna padega”.
