Maharashtra govt reschedules Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai to Sept 8 from Sept 5

The Maharashtra government on Thursday issued a notification announcing a change in the public holiday for Eid-e-Milad in Mumbai city and suburban districts. The holiday, which was earlier declared for Friday, September 5 will now be observed on Monday, September 8, officials said.Bhiwandi MLA Rais Shaikh, who had urged the government to shift the holiday, shared the notification on social media and expressed gratitude to the state for approving the change.The decision followed a meeting of Muslim organisations on August 21, where it was agreed that the Eid-e-Milad procession in Mumbai would be held on September 8. The adjustment was made in view of Anant Chaturdashi, a major Hindu festival, which falls on Saturday, September 6. Officials said the move was intended to maintain communal harmony and ensure smooth conduct of both festivals.The change applies only to Mumbai city and suburban districts. In the rest of Maharashtra, the public holiday for Eid-e-Milad will remain on Friday, September 5, as per the original government notification.
