100-metre steel bridge installed for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor near Bharuch

A 100-metre-long steel bridge has been installed over the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) tracks near Bharuch, Gujarat, as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. This marks the eighth of 17 steel bridges planned for Gujarat and one of 28 across the entire Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train corridor.The bridge weighs approximately 1,400 metric tonnes and stands 14.6 meters tall with a width of 14.3 meters. It was fabricated in Trichy and transported to the site using specialised trailers. A 600-metric-ton launching nose, 84 meters long, was used to assist in placing the structure.The bridge’s components include around 55,300 Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts, with protective C5 system painting and elastomeric bearings designed for long-term durability.It was assembled 18 meters above the ground on temporary supports and positioned using two semi-automatic jacks of 250-ton capacity each, with mac-alloy bars providing additional support.The installation process was carried out during scheduled traffic blocks on the DFC line to minimise disruption to ongoing freight operations.
