Congress MLA Amit Chavda named GPCC president

The Indian National Congress (INC) finally announced the name of Gujarat Congress president on Thursday. Anklav MLA Amit Chavda will now head the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).An INC statement read, “Congress president has appointed Amit Chavda as the president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect.”“Congress president has also approved the proposal for the appointment of Dr Tushar Chaudhary as the Leader of the Congress Legislative Party in Gujarat, with immediate effect,” it added.Congress also appreciated the contributions of outgoing PCC president Shaktisinh Gohil.Notably, the high command had called up more than 12 senior Congress leaders, including Amit Chavda, to Delhi to meet Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Gujarat in-charge Mukul Wasnik last week. The post fell vacant after Shaktisinh Gohil resigned following the party’s debacle in by-polls on two seats in the state.Other senior Congress leaders present at the Delhi meet included: Bharat Solanki, Ami Yagnik, Jagadish Thakor, Shailesh Parmar, Geni Thakore and Jignesh Mewani.Chavda is currently serving as MLA of Anklav, which has been his stronghold constituency since 2012.Between 2018 and 2021, he served as the GPCC president and was then appointed as the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.Also read:Congress MLA Amit Chavda likely to be appointed GPCC chief

Congress MLA Amit Chavda named GPCC president

The Indian National Congress (INC) finally announced the name of Gujarat Congress president on Thursday. Anklav MLA Amit Chavda will now head the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC).

An INC statement read, “Congress president has appointed Amit Chavda as the president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect.”

“Congress president has also approved the proposal for the appointment of Dr Tushar Chaudhary as the Leader of the Congress Legislative Party in Gujarat, with immediate effect,” it added.

Congress also appreciated the contributions of outgoing PCC president Shaktisinh Gohil.
