Surat couple who usually flew from Mumbai opted for Ahmedabad-London flight, killed in crash
An Air India-171 flight from Ahmedabad to London crashed on Thursday in which 242 passengers were on-board and the plane crash had only one survivor. Among the passengers was a doctor couple from Surat, Dr Hitesh Shah and his wife Dr Amita Shah, who lost their lives. They were seated on seats 11B and 11C, right next to the sole survivor of the crash, passenger Vishwas Ramesh Kumar, who was in seat 11A.The couple, residents of Sujata Society in Adajan, Surat, were traveling to London to visit Dr Amita Shah’s sister. According to close family friends, the Shahs almost always flew from Mumbai to London. However, for the first time in years, they decided to fly from Ahmedabad and the change in routine proved to be fatal for the couple.Two years ago, Dr. Hitesh Shah had been diagnosed with cancer but had bravely battled it.
