They advise families to adopt healthier, more disciplined lifestyles to protect children and youth from sudden illness or death.Heart attack casesIn January, an 8-year-old student named Gargi, studying in class 3, suddenly collapsed in her school in Ahmedabad. CCTV footage captured the distressing incident. In another incident, a 15-year-old boy named Laxman collapsed while eating and was declared dead at the hospital, with the cause identified as a heart attack.In Kutch, a 20-year-old boy named Mahesh, who was working on a farm, died after feeling dizzy while drinking tea.Two more tragic cases occurred in Rajkot. Bhavesh, a 13-year-old class 7 student, collapsed and died of a heart attack while visiting Atal Sarovar with his family, while 20-year-old Yuvrajsingh Yadav from Metoda GIDC also died of a sudden heart attack.In Surat, five deaths due to heart attacks have been reported just this month. In Parvat village, a 14-year-old girl collapsed at home.The increasing rate of heart attacks in Gujarat is concerning. Alarmingly, the number of patients over and under 50 years of age is now almost equal, with heart attacks among the youth rising by nearly 10% in the past year. Particularly concerning is the increasing incidence of heart disease among the young population.According to official data released by the Gujarat government last year, 1,052 people aged between 11 and 25 died due to heart attacks in the state. In response, the state has begun training school teachers and college professors in CPR, so they can provide immediate aid in case of heart attacks. Police officers are also being trained in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), which involves chest compressions to pump the heart and maintain breathing during emergencies.
