Gandhinagar police nab three accused hours after woman robbed, abducted in rickshaw

In a swift and coordinated operation, Gandhinagar police arrested three persons within hours of a brazen abduction and robbery of a woman who was travelling from Ahmedabad’s ISKCON intersection to Infocity in Gandhinagar. The accused, including the rickshaw driver, abducted the woman, assaulted her, and looted valuables worth ₹2 lakh before dumping her on the roadside.The incident took place on Thursday, when the complainant, Harshaben Anandbhai, a resident of Gandhinagar, had boarded a shared rickshaw from the ISKCON crossroad to reach Infocity. The rickshaw had four men inside — the driver and three other passengers — all of whom appeared familiar with each other.As the rickshaw reached Sargasan Bridge, Harshaben questioned the driver about taking an unusual route. Despite her concerns, the driver continued towards Indroda Circle. At a stop near Sector-1, one of the passengers asked to relieve himself, prompting the rickshaw to halt. At that point, the accused launched the assault — one of them slapped the complainant, while the others pinned her down and covered her face.The men forcibly snatched her gold chain, earrings, bag, purse, and mobile phone. When the woman cried out for help, one of the accused threatened her at knifepoint. She was later pushed out near the Gayatri temple in Sector-1, sustaining minor injuries.Following the attack, Inspector BB Goyal of Sector-7 Police Station formed five investigation teams. The teams reviewed over 100 CCTV cameras from the crime scene to the ISKCON intersection, leading to the identification of the rickshaw used in the crimeThe driver, identified as Mohit Balkrishna Sharma, a resident of Lambha village, Daskroi taluka, Ahmedabad, was apprehended along with the vehicle. During interrogation, he revealed the names of his accomplices: Bhavesh alias Batti Sureshbhai Balotra (28) and Avinash alias Chhotu Dharmendrabhai Rathod (25), both from the Lambha area of Ahmedabad. The duo was arrested soon after, and the police recovered the stolen gold chain, worth ₹1 lakh, and the rickshaw used in the crime.A fourth accused, Sanju alias Anna, is currently absconding. Efforts are underway to arrest him and recover the remaining stolen property, including the gold earrings. Police have registered a case under Sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 2023 of the Gujarat Police Act.The seized items include– A Bajaj CNG rickshaw (₹1,00,000) A gold chain (₹1,00,000) A fake ring (₹100)Commending the swift action of the police, Inspector BB Goyal said, “This was a grave and organised crime. The coordination between our teams and the use of CCTV analysis helped us make quick arrests and recover stolen property.”The search for the absconding accused continues.
