Congress MLA Amit Chavda likely to be appointed GPCC chief

After Shaktisinh Gohil stepped down as the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president, the Congress high command in Delhi has begun deliberations on who should take over the leadership of the party in the state. Anklav MLA Amit Chavda is the most likely candidate to take over the reins of the Congress party in Gujarat.The high command had called up more than 12 senior Congress leaders, including Amit Chavda, to Delhi to meet Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Gujarat in-charge Mukul Wasnik on Thursday. Other senior Congress leaders present at the Delhi meet included: Bharat Solanki, Ami Yagnik, Jagadish Thakor, Shailesh Parmar, Geni Thakore and Jignesh Mewani.If Chavda becomes the GPCC president, the Leader of the Opposition post will become vacant. Jignesh Mevani is likely to be appointed to that role, with Kirit Patel as deputy leader. The Congress high command aims to revamp the state unit and strengthen its Assembly presence. An official announcement is expected in a few days.Earlier between 2018 and 2021, Chavda had served as GPCC president and then was appointed as the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.Chavda is currently serving as MLA of Anklav, which has been his stronghold constituency since 2012.

Congress MLA Amit Chavda likely to be appointed GPCC chief

After Shaktisinh Gohil stepped down as the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president, the Congress high command in Delhi has begun deliberations on who should take over the leadership of the party in the state. Anklav MLA Amit Chavda is the most likely candidate to take over the reins of the Congress party in Gujarat.
