Mini River bridge closure after Gambhira collapse pushes Nandesari in traffic woes
Following the Gambhira Bridge accident, the administration closed the dilapidated bridge over the Mini River in Nandesari, creating a dire situation for thousands of residents and industrialists in and around Nandesari. With the bridge now closed, the only alternative route for commuting is the railway crossing road in Nandesari, where daily traffic jams are causing major inconvenience.The Mini River bridge in Nandesari had already been in a deteriorated condition. Several representations had been made to the authorities regarding this issue. In 2023, a load test was conducted on the bridge, and heavy vehicles were subsequently banned from using it. However, after the Gambhira Bridge accident, the bridge was completely shut down.As an alternative, the Nandesari railway crossing route is now being used. Hundreds of trains from the Delhi-Mumbai corridor pass through here daily, due to which the railway gate remains closed for hours during the day. With the bridge traffic now diverted onto this route, both sides of the road experience traffic jams, especially during peak hours. Although a new bridge has been planned to replace the old one, no concrete progress has been made so far. There is also a growing demand for an overbridge on the Nandesari railway crossing road.Industries face difficulty in receiving supplies Sources from the industrial sector in the area say that if an incident such as a fire or a gas leak occurs at any chemical industry in Nandesari GIDC, there is a high possibility that emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks would get stuck in the traffic jam. Moreover, the ongoing traffic congestion is also hampering the timely delivery of raw materials to industries, potentially impacting production.
