Dead people issued MGNREGA job cards, paid ₹2.72 crore in Vadodara’s Karjan

A police complaint was filed by villagers of Sansrod in Karjan taluka, alleging corruption in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme.The villagers alleged that mechanical equipment was used instead of human labour, and bogus MGNREGA vouchers amounting to ₹2.72 crore were issued in the name of deceased people under the scheme.As per the information provided, a written complaint has been made to the district collector, district development officer, district rural development agency in Vadodara, MP of Bharuch and the even the prime minister with evidence that irregularities have been committed in the MGNREGA scheme in Sansrod village from 2020 to date, causing financial loss to the government treasury.The complaint alleges that the beneficiaries of the MGNREGA scheme have not received any assistance from the then sarpanch and talati of the Sansrod Gram Panchayat. It has been alleged that public servants and officials have committed corruption by passing  faulty resolutions, forged bills and trumped up vouchers with fabricated signatures of beneficiaries.Although 10 beneficiaries of this scheme died five years ago, they have been shown on the record as beneficiaries of the scheme from 2020 to 2025. They were even issued job cards. A police complaint has been registered against eight people, including the then employees, who worked in the TDO office, for fraud and embezzlement of ₹2.72 crore by paying more bills in the tender process for the supply of goods under the MGNREGA scheme.
