Another Indian-origin man has reportedly been assaulted in the suburbs of Dublin. This time, the victim was Lakhvir Singh, who was reportedly hit on the head with a bottle in an unprovoked attack, after which the attackers shouted “go back to your own country”.

This comes after over 15 days of a similar assault of an Indian man in a possible hate crime.

That assault took place on July 19 when an Indian man in his 40s was thrashed by a group of men at Parkhill Lawns in the Kilnamanagh area of Tallaght, Dublin, as per reports.

However, in the current case of yet another assault, Singh, a cab driver, has been living in Ireland for over 10 years.

After the incident, he was taken to Beaumont Hospital and needed 12 stitches on his forehead.

According to local news, Singh said, “My children are so scared, they have asked me to promise them that I will never drive a taxi again”.

When the assault happened, he was dropping off two young men at Poppintree Community and Sports Centre when they turned on him and started striking his head with a bottle, shouting “go back to your country”.

The broader Indian community in Ireland has raised concerns about an increasing number of racist incidents.

Recently, the Embassy of India in Ireland advised Indian nationals to take reasonable precautions for their personal safety.

“There has been an increase in the instances of physical attacks reported against Indian citizens in Ireland recently. The Embassy is in touch with the Irish authorities concerned of Ireland in this regard. At the same time, all Indian citizens in Ireland are advised to take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially in odd hours,” the Indian Embassy in Ireland posted on X.
