Sanjay Raut draws parallels between Nepal crisis and India, warns of growing public anger

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday compared the ongoing political turmoil in Nepal with India, alleging that corruption, authoritarianism and the lavish lifestyles of ministers’ families are common in both countries.Speaking to reporters, Raut said the collapse of the Nepalese government was the result of widespread anger over corruption and dictatorship. He claimed that similar frustration is brewing in India as well.“Nepal is one of India’s border countries, adjoining Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. This fire that has erupted there, this uprising was against corruption, against dictatorship, and against ministers who lived luxuriously while the people suffered. Ministers have been dragged out onto the streets, beaten, and their houses set on fire. In India too, things may look stable on the surface, but deep down, people are restless and dissatisfied. Anything can happen anytime,” Raut said. The Sena (UBT) leader pointed to rising unemployment among India’s youth despite government welfare schemes. “Prime Minister Modi gives free rations to 80 crore people. But what does that mean? It shows people are still poor, surviving on 10 kilos of ration. Nepal’s situation is similar: people are poor and dependent. Money is flowing abroad while ordinary citizens struggle,” he alleged.Warning of the dangers of public discontent, Raut said dissatisfaction is rising in Nepal and the same spark could spread to India. “What has kept India alive is not the government, but the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was born here, and people still believe in him. Modiji may criticise Gandhi, but the truth is your government survives only because of Gandhian thought,” he remarked.
