Ahmedabad rural police seize mephedrone worth ₹55k from man at pan shop in Sanand
The Ahmedabad Rural Special Operations Group (SOG) on Tuesday evening arrested a 27-year-old man from Godhavi village in Sanand taluka for allegedly possessing mephedrone (MD) worth over ₹55,000. A mobile phone and cash were also seized during the operation, while another accused remains at large.The raid was carried out after police personnel on patrol found a man behaving suspiciously near Shivkrupa Pan Parlour at Godhavi around 3.55 pm on September 9. Upon questioning, the suspect identified himself as Ajay Singh, also known as Ajmal Singh Vaghela, a resident of Lalawat-ni-Deli in Godhavi.During his search, police recovered a transparent zip-lock pouch containing a white powdery substance, later confirmed by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to be mephedrone mixed with methamphetamine. The net weight of the contraband was determined to be 5.56 grams, with an estimated street value of ₹55,600.The police also seized a phone valued at ₹20,000 and ₹1,920 in cash from the accused. The total seizure amounted to ₹77,520.Samples of the narcotic substance were drawn and sealed in accordance with NDPS Act procedures before being sent to the FSL for analysis.During interrogation, Vaghela allegedly disclosed that the drugs had been supplied to him by Shabbirbhai Ibrahim Khan, aka Qureshi, a resident of Chharodi village in Sanand. Police said Qureshi, named as a co-accused in the FIR, was not present at the spot and is currently on the run.A case has been registered under Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 at Sanand police station. Police officials said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding supplier.
