Surat receives highest rainfall in 24 hours, red alert issued for 10 Gujarat districts

Heavy downpour continued in Gujarat on Tuesday as 31 districts and 170 talukas received rainfall in the last 24 hours in Gujarat. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for 10 districts on Tuesday.In the last 24 hours, Surat district received the highest rainfall in the state. Surat City received 13.62 inches of rainfall, Kamrej (10.71 inches), Palsana (8.19 inches), Bardoli (6.57 inches) and Narmada’s Tilakwada received 6.02 inches of rainfall.Between 6 am to 4 pm on Tuesday, Narmada’s Nandod received the highest rainfall in the state with 8.66 inches, followed by Tilakwada (7.13 inches), Dahod (7.09 inches), Vapi (6.02 inches) and Jetpur Pavi (5.55 inches).The met department on Tuesday issued a red alert saying, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli”.An orange alert is issued for Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Chhotaudepur, the Dangs, Tapi, Amreli and Bhavnagar for Wednesday.Light to moderate rainfall is likely to set in several districts including Ahmedabad. According to the government, 2,865 people have been evacuated in the state due to rainfall till now. Moreover, a total of 542 people have been rescued in Surat, Bhavnagar, Botad, Amreli, Gandhinagar, and Dahod.
