Surat receives 6 inches of rain in 2 hours, orange alert issued for 4 districts
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest bulletin has issued an orange alert for Surat, Valsad, Jamnagar and Junagadh districts.Following a cloudburst-like situation between 8 and 10 am, there was nearly 6 inches of rain, resulting in severe waterlogging across the city.The downpour resulted in waterlogging in low-lying areas, affecting commuters.Due to the heavy downpour, many low-lying areas of Surat witnessed waterlogging and impacted commuters. Owing to the continuous rainfall since early morning, the district collector has advised schools to send the morning-shift students home quickly and grant leave to the afternoon-shift students. Orange alert in Jamnagar and JunagadhIn the last 24 hours, rainfall has been recorded in 165 talukas across 33 districts of the state. According to the report from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar, Jodia taluka in Jamnagar district received the highest rainfall—over 7 inches—during this period, while Mendarda taluka in Junagadh district recorded around 6 inches of rain.Over 5 inches of rainfall was recorded in Palsana (Surat), Kaprada (Valsad), Amirgadh (Banaskantha), and Vanthali and Keshod talukas (Junagadh). Additionally, more than 4 inches of rain fell in Kalavad (Jamnagar), Umarpada (Surat), Junagadh taluka and city, and Manavadar taluka.Furthermore, more than 3 inches of rainfall was recorded in Kamrej and Surat city (Surat), Vapi and Pardi (Valsad), Kutiyana (Porbandar), Paddhari, Jetpur, and Dhoraji (Rajkot), Khergam (Navsari), Bhesan (Junagadh), and Gandhidham (Kutch). Moreover, 10 talukas received over 2 inches of rainfall, 26 talukas received more than 1 inch, while 106 talukas received less than 1 inch of rain.As per the SEOC report from Gandhinagar, the total seasonal average rainfall across the state so far has reached approximately 18.61%.
