Woman, mother-in-law die in hit-and-run on Gondal highway in Rajkot

A tragic hit-and-run accident near Korat Chowk on Gondal highway, Rajkot took two lives on Sunday night, injuring two others.A family of four were returning to Gondal after attending a wedding function in Rajkot on Sunday night. Janvi and her mother-in-law Jyoti Bavniya who were riding pillion on separate vehicles died after a speeding truck rammed into both two-wheelers.The father-son duo, who were riding the scooters, sustained severe injuries.After the accident, the police reached the scene and shifted the bodies to a hospital for post-mortem, while the injured were also taken to the hospital for treatment. Notably, after causing the accident, the truck driver fled the scene. However, the police managed to apprehend the truck driver within a few hours. The police are investigating and questioning whether the accident occurred due to the driver's intoxicated state or because of a technical issue in the truck.The relatives of the accident victims alleged that Shapar Veraval Police did not register a ‘hit-and-run’ case. The relatives said, “If the police do not register a hit-and-run case, we will not accept the bodies, and we will also take up the matter with senior police officials.
